Other VA's

Marinus was not the only Van Aken to immigrate to America. Other early
immigrants include Metjen Kuerlings, wife of Hendrik Jensen Van Aaken, and
their children William, Henry, and Elizabeth who settled in the
Germantown/Philadelphia area before 1755, and John Van Aken who travelled
directly to Ohio and points west.

Although the early records in the country use the Van Aken or Van Aaken
spelling, other forms of orthography of the name included Van Nocken, Van
Nocker, and Van Ocker. Several families using these variations trace their
beginnings to New York State in the early 1800's. Research is ongoing to
trace these families back to earlier times.
